History of the Young Explorers, a journey of 8 years

The history of the young Mountaineers (now called Explorers) dates back to December 19, 2015. It was then when Jose Carlos Cañas, a Nature guide and ethologist in love with Hiking and Nature, led a diverse group of 40 people , to a Hiking route in Salares.

With the help of other instructors, Jose Carlos Cañas taught children, during the last 4 years, aspects such as camping, observing, deducing, hiking, botany, life saving, responsibility, ethology and respect for the Natural Environment and the beings that inhabit it. .
Many of these lessons were learned through creative games that have engaged children.

The idea was that the children should be organized in small groups of ten or twelve children under the tutelage of a Teacher and a Monitor. Basically, these courses and workshops consisted of activities such as tracking and reconnaissance, studying animal behavior, locating medicinal plants, as well as acquiring knowledge of first aid and all the skills that come from camping and similar outdoor activities. .

Commitment

To become explorers, children had to pledge Maximum Respect for Nature, help other people, and generally obey the law of the CMR, which in itself is a simple code of behavior easily understood by children.

Change of Strategy Model

In reality, Jose Carlos Cañas sought the intention of providing a training method for the little ones, although to his surprise, the children began to organize themselves and demand more activities than those scheduled. This gave rise to what would become one of the largest children's Nature groups in Axarquía.

“Each one of us is important, has a role to play and makes a difference. “Each of us must take responsibility for our own lives and, above all, show respect and love for the living beings around us, especially each other.”

Likewise, the Special Monographic Courses such as Herpetology, Climbing, Entomology, Mycology, Survival, are specific training courses, which are given with high-level national teachers. Finally, the Monitors carry out highly programmed activities every Saturday with all the Explorers that reinforce understanding and respect for history and Nature.
